Hey Let’s Roll fam! May was a rollercoaster of a month for the New York City skate scene, and we’re heading into June with a lot to talk about. The biggest, and saddest, news was the permanent closure of RollerJam USA, Staten Island’s beloved indoor rink. It’s a huge loss, and we’re pouring one out for the countless memories made there over the last 20 years. But if we know one thing about NYC skaters, it’s that we’re resilient and the community spirit is stronger than ever!
That spirit was on full display all over the five boroughs! The season officially kicked off in the Bronx with the awesome The Uptown Get Down 3, and we saw incredible talent from pros and locals alike during the Red Bull Drop In Tour. The scene is also getting fresh energy with skaters like Gabe Talamantes moving to the city and dropping new content. With the loss of a major indoor spot, our community is hitting the pavement and rediscovering the city’s amazing outdoor rinks and trails, which is exactly what we’re seeing in the app!
