Building in Public: Welcome to the Let’s Roll Open Roadmap 🏗️

Category: Uncategorized

  • Building in Public: Welcome to the Let’s Roll Open Roadmap 🏗️

You voted, we listened. See the future of the app (and play with it) right now.

    Hey Skaters,

“Let’s Roll isn’t just an app; it’s a community.” But a community shouldn’t just be told what’s coming next. They should help decide it.

For a long time, we’ve been tracking your votes on our All Our Ideas page. We’ve watched the battles between features, seen what you prioritize, and read your comments.

    And the data doesn’t lie.

What You Told Us (The Data) 📊

Looking at the thousands of votes you cast, a clear picture emerged from the top of the leaderboard:

    • You want connection: “Allow users to find local skate communities” is sitting at the very top with a 67 score.
    • You want action: “Show local activities or events” is right behind it with a 64 score.
    • You want visibility: “Allow users to add events and view local skate activities” is fighting hard with a 62 score.

The message is loud and clear: You want to find where the party is, whether it’s down the street or across the ocean.

    Introducing: build.lets-roll.app 🚀

Today, we are tearing down the wall between “Us” (the developers) and “You” (the skaters).

    We are launching build.lets-roll.app.

This isn’t just a boring list of bullet points. This is our Open Roadmap. It’s a live look at what we are designing, thinking about, and building. It’s where we share the raw sketches before they become code.

A Sneak Peek: The “Global Gatherings” Update 🌍

To kick things off, we’ve posted our very first interactive mockup on the build site. It directly addresses those top votes from the survey regarding events.

    The Problem:

Right now, the event feed can be overwhelming. We often show you a long list of every event happening in the world, sorted only by time. This makes it hard to find the massive international festivals worth traveling for, but it also clogs up your feed, making it harder to spot the small session happening right in your city tonight.

    The Solution:

We are building a Spotlight Carousel that sits at the top of your events feed to separate the “Dreams” from the “Daily.”

    • The World Tour: A horizontal slider highlighting major International Festivals. It’s your inspiration board for your next skate-cation.
    • The Local Scene: Your main vertical feed stays right below it. By moving the big global events into the spotlight, this list becomes clean, clutter-free, and 100% focused on what’s happening near you.

    Go Play With It!

Don’t just take our word for it. Go to build.lets-roll.app right now.

You can actually click through the mobile mockup, scroll the new carousel, and see exactly how this “Local vs. Global” split will feel in your hand.

This is Your App. Keep Voting.

This new roadmap site links directly back to our Voting Page. Please, keep voting! Every time you pick a winner, you are literally shaping the code we write next.

    Let’s build this thing together.

    Keep Rolling!

  • Rolling into 2026: New Features, Web Links, and Keeping the Community Spinning

Happy New Year, Let’s Roll family!

We hope you’ve managed to catch some fresh air and find some smooth pavement under your wheels to kick off January. Whether you are working on your jam skating flow, crushing distance records, or just cruising with friends, we are stoked to roll into 2026 with you.

We believe in building this roller skating community with you, which means being open about where we are, what we’ve built, and where we’re heading. So, let’s switch things up with a little “State of the Skate” update.

Behind the Scenes: The Hustle is Real 🛠️

First off, how are we doing? Generally speaking—we’re great! But let’s be real: like many of you, the team has been juggling a lot. Between day jobs, families, and the hustle of everyday life, keeping up with app development is a labor of love. We are a passionate team, but a small one!

You might have noticed a few hiccups or moments of downtime recently. We’ve been moving to a new hosting setup to ensure your skate tracking data stays safe and accessible. We are currently hunting for a “forever home” for the app’s infrastructure—a solution that is sustainable for the long run.

Because Let’s Roll doesn’t have major corporate backing or intrusive ads, we rely on you. This is the perfect moment to remind everyone that our Supporter Subscription is the engine that keeps us moving.

Want to help keep the servers running? If you love tracking your stats, finding new skate spots, and connecting with the crew, please consider subscribing. It’s the single best way to support the app’s existence and ensures we can keep this platform independent and focused on skaters, not shareholders.

Feature Drop: “Hey, I see you!” 👋

Despite the busy schedule, we have been cooking up some exciting stuff in the dev kitchen. We are thrilled to announce two major improvements live in the app right now!

    1. Direct Mentions are Here!

Gone are the days of describing who you skated with in the comments. You can now tag skaters directly in your posts and session logs!

    • Give a shoutout to a friend who nailed a new trick.
    • Credit a local for showing you a hidden skate spot.
    • Make sure your crew sees your latest session.

Just tag them, and they’ll get the notification. It makes our social skating network feel a whole lot more connected.

    2. We’re Going Global (Wide Web) 🌐

We have officially finished the development of web-based versions for much of the app’s content!

While the mobile app is still your go-to for GPS skate tracking, this update means that Profiles, Events, Skate Spots, and Activities now have their own dedicated web links.

Why is this a game-changer? Sharing power. It has never been easier to take what you’re doing on Let’s Roll and share it with the wider world.

    • Drop a link to a Skate Event into a Facebook Group.
    • Share a killer route or spot on a Reddit thread.
    • Send your Profile stats to your local WhatsApp community.

Help Us Grow the Tribe 🚀

This brings us to our request for 2026: Please share.

We want this community to thrive, and the best way to do that is by spreading the word. Use the new web links to show your local groups what they are missing. When you share your activities and events externally, you aren’t just showing off your progress; you are helping support the app’s growth.

We are so grateful for every single one of you who rolls with us. Let’s boost into 2026 together, support each other, and make this a thriving year for skaters everywhere.

    Let’s Roll!

    — The Team ❤️

  • Winter Blues? We feel you! Big Updates & Bigger Thanks to Our Community 🛼❄️

    Hey Rollers!

Are we the only ones, or is everyone else collectively dreaming of those warm, endless summer nights on eight wheels? We found ourselves scrolling through our galleries this morning, looking at clips from July, missing the feeling of the sun on our faces and the pavement under our wheels.

But hey, even though the days are shorter and the temperature has dropped, the fire in this community is burning brighter than ever! December might be here, but at Let’s Roll, we aren’t hibernating. In fact, we’ve been buzzing with activity to make your experience smoother, more social, and more fun—whether you’re hitting the rink or braving the cold.

Here is what we have been up to!

    🎥 Android Users: It’s Showtime!

We heard you, we promised you, and we delivered. We are absolutely thrilled to announce that full video support has officially launched on Android!

We know how important it is to capture those new tricks, smooth lines, and hilarious bails. Now, our Android family can share their skate journey in full motion. Seeing your videos pop up on the feed has been the highlight of our month—keep them coming! This is a huge step in our mission to provide the best social networking experience for skaters everywhere.

🔜 Coming Soon: Tag Your Skate Mates

Building a community is what we are all about, and soon it’s going to get even easier to give credit where credit is due.

We are putting the final touches on User Mentions! Soon, you will be able to tag your friends directly in your post descriptions. Whether you are shouting out a skate buddy who filmed your clip or tagging the coach who helped you nail that transition, connecting with other users is about to get seamless.

🛡️ A Note on Community Safety

Now, we want to have a quick, honest chat with you all. We have noticed—and many of you have reported—an increase in spam on the platform recently.

First off: We are very sorry about this. We know how annoying it is to have your feed cluttered when you just want to see cool skating content.

Secondly: THANK YOU. A massive shout-out to everyone who has taken the time to report these accounts. Your vigilance helps us keep Let’s Roll a safe and authentic space for skaters. We are manually cleaning things up as fast as we can, but more importantly, we are working hard on permanent, automated solutions to block this spam before it even reaches you. We appreciate your patience while we tighten up our defenses.

    Let’s Keep Rolling Together

We are building this app with you, not just for you. Your feedback, your reports, and your passion are what drive our evolution.

So, grab your skates (maybe find an indoor rink?), track your progress, and let’s finish this year strong. We can’t wait to show you what we have planned for 2026.

    Stay awesome and keep rolling!

    — The Let’s Roll Team 💛

  • Be a Let’s Roll Pioneer 🥇

Over the last few months, we rolled out two of our biggest features ever—and now it’s time to put them in your hands to shape the future of the Let’s Roll community.

This is your official invitation to get in on the ground floor.

The Event Feed is Live: Get the Word Out! 📅

We’ve launched a special Events feed in the app, and here’s the best part: when you post an event, we automatically send a broadcast notification to skaters in your local area.

It’s the most direct way to get the word out.

It’s been awesome to see the first few sessions light up the feed, but now we’re ready to make it the go-to spot for skaters everywhere. If you host a group skate or meetup, add it to the feed and let us handle reaching local skaters for you.

    Become a Foundational Let’s Roll Pro ⭐

We also created Let’s Roll Pro to spotlight the leaders who build our community. We’re talking about the coaches, organizers, and creators. Pros get a star on their profile and are featured on an exclusive list.

We are looking for the first wave of community leaders to become our foundational Pros. With only a couple of spots filled so far, this is a unique chance to be one of the very first on the platform, giving you standout visibility to skaters everywhere.

These features were built for you, but they will be defined by you. Let’s build the best skate community platform together.

    Let’s get rolling!

  • Mastering the Downtown Move

    Step-by-Step Tutorial and Tips 🛼💃

The Downtown is a dance skating essential, combining smooth transitions, rhythmic footwork, and endless variations. Whether you’re a beginner looking for an approachable move or an intermediate skater seeking to refine your skills, the Downtown is your ticket to skating style. This guide combines step-by-step instructions and drills to help you nail this iconic move while showcasing how the Let’s Roll app can enhance your learning journey.

    Why Learn the Downtown Move?

The Downtown is a versatile and fun move for skaters of all levels. Here’s why it’s worth mastering:

    1. Builds a Strong Foundation: The Downtown develops balance, control, and rhythm – key skills for more advanced moves.
    2. Customizable: From spins to kicks, you can adapt it to match your style and music.
    3. Community Favorite: Perfect for group skates or solo sessions, it’s a move that connects skaters everywhere.

    Preparing to Downtown: Essential Drills

    1. Crossovers

    • What to Do: Cross one foot over the other while the other leg rolls back and resets.
    • Why It’s Important: Teaches you weight-shifting and foot control needed for the Downtown.
    • How to Practice: Start slow, maintain a straight line, and gradually increase your speed. Engage your core and inner thigh muscles for better stability.

Before diving into the Downtown, build your confidence with these preparatory drills:

    2. Cross-Unders

    • What to Do: Similar to crossovers, but the leg crosses underneath the leading leg.
    • Why It’s Important: Improves your ability to handle directional changes with precision.
    • How to Practice: Repeat the drill with both legs initiating the movement, at varying speeds, to build muscle memory.

    Step 1: The A and V Shapes

    1. Start in an A position (feet together, toes pointed out).
    2. Lift your lead leg (e.g., left) and point it outward to form a straight line with the opposite leg.
    3. Replace the lead leg with the other foot, forming a V shape (heels together, toes pointed out).

    Step 2: Crossing and Resetting

    1. From the V shape, bring your leading leg inward, crossing it behind the opposite foot.
    2. Reset the crossed foot into an A shape to repeat the sequence.

    Step 3: Switch Directions

    1. Practice alternating lead feet, moving smoothly in both directions.
    2. Focus on maintaining balance and keeping the movement fluid.

    Tips for Perfecting the Downtown

    1. Bend Your Knees: Stabilize your stance and prevent wobbling by keeping your knees slightly bent.
    2. Focus on Your Hips: Let your hips follow the direction of your leading foot for a natural flow.
    3. Add Rhythm: Sync your steps with the beat of the music, starting slow and gradually increasing speed.
    4. Incorporate Kicks: For added style, add a small kick or pump with your lead foot before resetting.
    5. Experiment with Variations: Once comfortable, try spinning, circling, or adapting the move to different beats.

Level Up with Let’s Roll 🛼📱

The Let’s Roll app is the perfect companion to help you master the Downtown and more. Here’s how it can support your progress:

    4. Connect with Skaters: Share your Downtown journey, get feedback, and celebrate your wins with the global skating community.
